For the past few decades, most of the attention in the investment world has gone to stocks, bonds, and REITs. That’s where the headlines are. That’s where financial media focus. That’s where many investors have been consistently directed to place their money.
For most people, those have been presented as the default options. The familiar lanes of investing that feel safe simply because they are well known. When the same message is repeated often enough, many qualified investors never stop to ask whether another category of opportunity might be sitting just outside the spotlight.
This is especially true for retirees, business owners, and family offices. People who have worked hard to build capital and are now more concerned with preserving it intelligently than chasing speculation.

I’ve met investors with substantial funds parked in savings accounts, GICs, or other low-yield vehicles. Not because they lack resources, but because no one has taken the time to show them a different way to think about risk and return. They’re often disappointed by how little their money is earning, yet understandably cautious about investing in something that feels volatile, abstract, or disconnected from real value.
What many of these investors have never been shown is that there is another path. One that is grounded in a tangible asset, structured with security in mind, and designed to produce a meaningful return without depending solely on public market performance.
A secured, compounding, real-asset-backed loan offers a very different kind of proposition. It’s not built on market hype or momentum. It’s built on collateral, structure, and timing.
For the right investor, that can be the difference between watching capital sit idle and putting it to work in a way that is both disciplined and rewarding.
When I speak with people who are considering lending to our development projects, the conversation is rarely just about numbers. Yes, we want to improve their return on investment, but just as importantly, we want to give them a clearer understanding of how real estate can work as a long-term income strategy.
For many investors, this is a new way of thinking. Once they see how the structure works, how their capital is secured, how the return is built in, and how long-term upside can remain even after their original investment is returned, they begin to understand why real estate-backed lending can play such a valuable role in building lasting wealth.
That’s what Michael Ruge and our team focus on every day. Not just funding real estate development, but showing investors a better way to grow and preserve their capital.
Michael Ruge’s new book “Building Hope in the Housing – How to Solve the Rental Affordability Crisis” will be realeased this fall (2026).
